About

The act of painting, for me, is often more important than what I choose as my subject matter. As an artist I am always looking to grow and challenge myself, as a painter I need to paint.

My paintings are objects in themselves and not representations of other things. They are not used as vehicles for opinions, politics, or beliefs. For me, painting is an outlet of expression. Emotion, passion, humor, and changing attitudes are the experiences translated visually through the use of vibrant colors, abstraction, texture, and mixed media.

Mixing mediums such as beads, collage, dirt, fabric, feathers, oil, and sand with the more traditional acrylic and oil paints, provide a tangible experience. Poetry in the form of text cut from the pages of magazines and braille allows for further exploration of more complex visual and tactile experiences.

Most people know what braille is but for those who might not... Braille is a system of writing and printing for the visually impaired that consists of tiny raised dots. When taken off the page and scaled beyond its traditional size, braille becomes an invitation to the blind and visually impaired to experience the art. As well as a form of communication, braille is inherently beautiful in it's compostion and adds depth and dimension to the work.
